Animal Farm

In Orwell's Animal Farm, one of the very first human traits the reader sees in the pigs is that of stealing. On the very first day after the rebellion the pigs steal the milk. This shows that from the beginning the pigs had ulterior motives. Later, the pigs decide to live in the farmhouse with all its conveniences, even though they and the other animals had said no animal must ever live there. Again they are showing signs of bad human behavior. By far the scariest appearance they make is walking on two legs and wearing clothes. By doing these two things they have tried to create the appearance of a human and essentially tried to show the other animals that they are superior. The last thing that gives them human qualities is that they have pets. You have to note in a term paper that they have nine huge dogs that do not talk like the other animals and are loyal only to the pigs. Dogs are mans' best friend. The pigs are trying to be men and the fact that they have pets shows that they believe that the dogs aren't equal to themselves.

When the pigs come into power, they try to stay in power by any means possible. They have Squealer use multiple propaganda techniques on the animals to show them that they are always right and know what is best. They get rid of their enemies like Snowball by force. They even kill animals as an example for the others, and make them "confess" by saying they were working for the enemy. "When they had finished their confession, the dogs promptly tore their throats out..." This shows that the pigs will do anything to keep their power. When the pigs started living in the farmhouse and sleeping in the beds the commandment also had a new addition of with sheets. From there on the pigs broke every last one. They sent a "friend" away to a glue factory. They kill many animals, wear clothes, and walk upon two legs. The last commandment to be changed is also the most important ideal of animalism. "All animals are equal." This and all the other commandments are erased and replaced by "All animals are equal, but some are more equal than others".
