Binge Drinking

Binge drinking has been an issue at colleges since the beginning of colleges, but to see the statistics and to actually be in college and go to the parties where binge drinking occurs quite frequently, is a whole different ball game. This is a very serious subject that most people choose to ignore or act like it doesn't even exist. During these college days, where alcohol is almost always involved, the students also run the risk of getting into some very serious trouble. In order for all traces of alcohol to disappear you would have to wait as many hours as you've had drinks. This means that if you've consumed two or three drinks you must wait about two to three hours for all of the alcohol to be out of your system. Very few people that have been drinking realize that that is the procedure, waiting it out. So with their impaired judgment they decide they would like to go home and they then decide to drive, this makes for a mess. This situation could happen to anyone, but you need to know the responsible thing to do. For example, call a cab or call a friend or family member to come give you a ride home. College students don't often realize that things that happen to them now in life can come back to haunt them later in life. Example to consider in a term paper: If a student aspiring to be a teacher receives a D.U.I, driving under the influence, or an underage fine they can practically forget about becoming a teacher. Who would want to hire someone to teach societies youth, that has a record of irresponsibility and drunkenness. The answer to that question is common knowledge, and it is no one.

Another aspect of this matter is taken for the view of different races. The most commonly compared races are White and African American. In an article written on this topic called Black College Students and Binge Drinking, it was reported that "Binge drinking - the consumption of five or more drinks in one sitting in the previous two weeks- was reported by 21.9 percent of the black collegians, as compared to 45.4 percent of whites ". This is a shocking statistic, one would not think that race would be an issue in this matter but it obviously plays a big role. The explanations given for these statistics are that the black students don't have as much money to spend on alcohol and/or other drugs, or maybe that they are the first in their families to be attending a college, so there is lots of stress placed on them to do well. From my personal experience these reasons would also apply to white college students, so I don't think that binge drinking is a racial issue. Some would suggest that it might be the environment, the college the student is attending, or the people that the student frequently "hangs out with". Statistics to include in a custom essay: White students attending black schools had a significantly lower binge drinking rate than white students attending non-black schools (22.3 percent and 39.6 percent, respectively)." According to the authors of these journals there is a definite race relation and environment matter directly associated with binge drinking.
