Bible

In your Religion class, you will most probably be asked to write a term paper on some aspect of Bible. Lots of churches use the Bible differently, and their church services are very different as well. In the Roman Catholic, Anglican and Orthodox churches the Bible is a very important part of the service. There is usually one reading taken from the Old Testament and one from the New Testament (sometimes more then one). Priests always do all Gospel readings but the congregation can do other readings. This is an example of how the Bible is used in these liturgical church daily services. In the sermon, after one of the congregation have read a selected section of the Bible, the priest then talks about the reading using quotes from the Bible to develop a meaning of the teaching and then he/she tries to apply it to modern life. In congregational worship there is always a special service for certain times of the year like Christmas or Good Friday etc, and there are small stories and readings in the Bible for these occasions e.g. readings about Jesus' crucifixion. Not only for these times of year but the Bible is also used in Baptism or Christenings and during these services a passage maybe be read about Jesus and his own baptism, by John the Baptist in the River Jordan. There are many passages and readings in the Bible that are used in congregation that are relevant to certain events and they have different meanings and morals to them. These passages are picked out when necessary e.g. a funeral, the words from Johns Gospel. It gives comfort and encouragement for the people mourning. The Bible is also used in singing of hymns and preys, short hymns and preys are written in the book for the congregation to follow and become involved in the service.

We may focus a custom essay on what the Bible teaches us, which is how to live, and contains many rules for us to follow e.g. The Ten Commandments. The Bible is very special to Christians because it is their way of communicating to God, especially through singing and preying. Explain how the teaching in the Bible can affect the Christian attitude to abortion. The teachings in the Bible can affect Christian attitudes to abortion in many different ways, and there are many interpretations to the teachings that help Christians with their beliefs. The Bible does not mention abortion in any of its teachings, because centuries ago it didn't even exist so the writers couldn't have written about it that is why there are so many mixed views on the subject. The Bible teaches forgiveness, it states that God has the right to judge us and we as humans shouldn't criticize or judge others therefore the Bible teaches us to forgive those who may have an abortion. The Bible also states that 'God will judge you in the same way you judge others'. We are all guilty of our sins and do not have the right to condemn others.
